Chemical comparison between stems and leaves of Cupressus sempervirens l. ("Cypress") of Cuban origin, as anti-inflammatories
Abstract
Cupressus sempervirens Linnaeus (Cypress), belonging to the botanical family Cupressaceae, is of great importance for presenting metabolites with great therapeutic potential; We set the objective of comparing the chemical characterization of the Cuban ¨ Cupressus sempervirens L. (Cypress) ¨ in stems and leaves; as anti-inflammatory. Quality parameters of the leaves and stem were evaluated: organoleptic characteristics and by Near Infrared residual humidity, total ash, protein, fiber and starch, most of the results obtained comply with the specifications described in the official monographs, The extraction method carried out was Maceration, using 95% ethanol as menstruum. For the physical-chemical analysis of the extract, the following parameters were determined: organoleptic characteristics, relative density, refractive index, pH and total solids. The qualitative chemical composition of the plant was developed through Phytochemical Screening; expressing: essential oils, fats, alkaloids, triterpenoids and steroids, resins, reducing sugars, saponins, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, mucilages and bitter principles and by high resolution liquid chromatography; suggests that possibly the compounds that have a retention time in stems of 15,2 and 15,9 minutes and those with a retention time in leaves of 15,2 and 16.0 minutes, respectively, are two compounds that represent the same type of metabolites, in each case, produced by the plant in each part of the plant; separately. Compounds present in leaves that do not appear in stems and vice versa are shown. The anti-inflammatory activity was determined by the Auricular Edema Method of the ethanolic extract, which showed the expected result for the species.
