Methodological strategy for designing and implementing a hybrid learning model in a university

Abstract

Hybrid learning is a teaching-learning modality that combines face-to-face instruction with instruction mediated by different information and communication technologies, particularly emerging technologies, facilitating the development of different types of interactions and encounters between the actors in the teaching-learning process (teachers, students, managers, administrators, and other stakeholders). The added value of the hybrid modality is that it has the potential to combine the strengths of both face-to-face and virtual modalities, achieving a learning experience that neither modalities could achieve alone. The research developed has a qualitative approach, using theoretical methods such as modeling, structural-functional systemic modeling, and synthetic analytical methods to develop the model and strategy. Surveys and interviews were used as empirical methods to evaluate the proposals, and document analysis was used as research techniques to develop the diagnosis. Based on the references of the main models and methodologies associated with hybrid learning and the design by the authors of this research of a hybrid learning model for the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil (UCSG) and a pedagogical-technological model of the teaching-learning process in hybrid environments for the University of Havana, a methodological strategy was developed for the design of a hybrid learning model, methodological guidelines for its practical implementation and a technique when developing a class in hybrid mode.
