Social responsibility and reconstructive surgery

Abstract

This article aims to illustrate the situation of patients with congenital malformations, both in rural and urban areas, attributing a large percentage of their challenges to the insufficient training in social cohesion values ​​among graduates of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery specialty. It highlights the critical issues within the academic proposal, which, according to the research, constitute the hidden curriculum, and concludes with a proposal for collaboration between academia and various social assistance organizations. This collaboration would be a cornerstone for the training of medical specialists, not only in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery but also in human rights, thus echoing the current Organic Law of Higher Education (LOES), which states that education must be relevant.
